Digital transformation and development cooperation Promoting digital public goods and infrastructure

More than a third of the world’s population still has no access to digital technologies. The majority of these people live in the Global South or in rural areas, or belong to disadvantaged groups.

Access to digital learning materials, job opportunities and digital services such as administrative or financial services could significantly improve their living conditions. This requires secure, efficient digital infrastructure for data sharing, including digital identities and payment systems.

German development cooperation activities aim to support citizens, companies and public institutions so that they can act and make decisions independently in the digital space.
