TruBudget uses blockchain technology, meaning that every financial transaction is documented and tamper-proof. The software minimises risks and allows spending to be tracked and reports to be generated. This in turn enables transparency regarding the use of donor funds, and eliminates the need for cumbersome parallel structures for risk protection and donor harmonisation.

TruBudget enables BMZ partner countries to integrate external project financing into their own budgets and manage this financing themselves. This promotes digital sovereignty, saves time and money, ensures complete transparency and increases trust.

The software was developed by KfW Development Bank. It is publicly available and has been certified as a digital public good by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA). This means the software can be used in low- and middle-income countries without them having to pay ongoing licence fees.
