DAAD SDG Partnerships programme

Higher education institutions play an important role in realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) first launched its SDG Partnerships programme (External link) in 2021. The programme enables higher education institutions in developing countries and emerging economies to collaborate with German universities to address topics related to sustainable development.

These partnerships between higher education institutions aim to:

  • Foster effective, open-minded higher education institutions in countries that Germany partners with in its development cooperation
  • Increase expertise in the areas of sustainable development and development cooperation at German higher education institutions
  • Establish specialist networks between participating higher education and research institutions in the area of development

The BMZ is currently funding over 30 collaborations. Most of the partnerships involve higher education institutions in Africa..
