DAAD Empower Future Female Afghan Leaders

The BMZ launched the Empower Future Female Afghan Leaders (EFFAL) scholarship programme (External link) in collaboration with the DAAD. The programme gives displaced Afghan students – especially women – access to academic education.

The programme has received around seven million euros in funding and will finance up to 5,000 scholarships between 2023 and 2027.

The target group are Afghan bachelor’s and master’s students who have been living in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh since the Taliban took power. Applications are also open to people living in Afghanistan who have completed their school education and want to prepare for higher education through English language courses or other training programmes. The programme is chiefly aimed at Afghan women who would not otherwise have the opportunity to continue or begin their studies.
