27 September 2022 Conference: Feminist Development Policy – Transforming International Cooperation
We are living in times of multiple crises that are making existing gender inequalities particularly evident. The reasons for this are discriminatory social structures, norms, and roles, which must be overcome if we want to achieve gender equality and sustainable democracies. And this is precisely why we need a feminist development policy, especially in times of crisis.
Women and girls in all their diversity are key agents of change for socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable development and lasting peace. Yet, no country in the world has achieved gender equality.
In order to accelerate progress, I have adopted a feminist development policy that is aimed at a gender-just society and equal participation of all people in the social, political and economic spheres.
At the event, I would like to engage in a discussion with high-ranking participants and with practitioners from civil society and international organizations on important features of Germany’s new feminist approach to development cooperation.
The main objective of the event is to receive further input and have an exchange on best practices, approaches, and core elements of a feminist development policy. Moreover, peacebuilders and activists from the Middle East and North Africa region will illustrate the crucial role women play in peace and dialogue processes and share their expectations of a feminist development policy. The programme will be rounded off by creative and activist input on our feminist future.
