Environmental situation Adapting to climate change, conserving resources

Climate change is set to hit Mozambique hard. Those who depend on agriculture for their living face an increasing threat of failed rains and drought. At the same time, those living in coastal regions and on rivers are experiencing ever more frequent catastrophic flooding as storms and heavy rainfall become more common.

In the past few years, natural disasters have caused enormous setbacks for Mozambique's development. It is also to be feared that illegal logging and the cultivation of monocultures, such as biofuel crops, will cause major environmental degradation in Mozambique. Coal mining and the construction of major hydropower plants bring with them further environmental risks. Poaching is posing a threat to biodiversity.
